If you refer back to the very first blog I wrote here at Momentum, you’ll notice that the title of it is, “We are Go-ers, not benchwarmers”. I’d like to reiterate some of that, but also touch on something that we, as Christians, often face during the very important task of reaching those who don’t know Jesus.
In life, we encounter so many individuals, whether they’re in grocery stores, walking past you on the sidewalk, coffee shops, airports, you name it, there is never a time where you don’t see at least one individual when out and about, unless you live in Antarctica. Not sure why you’d want to live there, but that’s besides the point. Those times where you encounter people are opportunities to be present and ready for God to move. Those opportunities can lead to relationships pretty quickly if navigated correctly, and if you fully let God work through you. The meaning behind the title, “We are Go-ers, not benchwarmers”, is that we’re called to reach those who are lost. We’re called to reach those who don’t know Jesus and what He did for us. We aren’t meant to sit around and wait for non-believers to walk through the doors of your Church, then interact with them to try to get them to stay to know Jesus. You’re basically hoping that God is going to do what He has told YOU to do, to GO and reach others.
Something that I’d like to add to this is sometimes, in the moments when we expect God to move, He may not. You might ask yourself, “why God? You told me to do this, why aren’t you doing anything? Where are you? Don’t you see where I’m at?”. It’s interesting when that happens because that’s when our feelings take control. We turn to what we want, rather than trusting in God and His ultimate plan. Interesting how that works. We become self-centered when we don’t see the results we think we’re gonna see.
Maybe you’re someone like me who overthinks too much. Maybe you’re at a place in your life where you let your feelings take control. Maybe you have a hard time realizing that whenever God seems distant, He isn’t. I’m certain most of us have asked the question, “Where are you God?”, and then end up seeing the end result, and realize that God was with us through all of that. He was with us, and chose to move when He knew it was right to do so.
Isaiah 41:10 states: "Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
To close this, I want to leave you with this. Understand that God’s timing is better than yours. Understand that when you think He’s not with you during the times you want Him to move, He has a better and greater plan to move through you.
