As followers of Christ, we’re called to go and spread the gospel to all creation (Mark 16:15). Notice the key word there, “go”. Jesus doesn’t say sit around and wait for people to come to you before you take action to share, He says to physically go out to those around you and share the gospel.
Sometimes we often set a preconceived mindset to sit back and hope the people come to you. It’s the action of going out to speak to people, other than your family & friends that can freak us out. More so than ever though, this society has become a society where people don’t want to communicate with others because of harsh opinions. It’s gotten to a point where people shut others down before thoroughly hearing what they have to say. Sometimes it can be difficult to navigate those moments as someone who is trying to share the gospel. It’s especially relevant as the digital world has evolved. However, as Christians, we have the best instruction that Jesus Himself gave us, and undeniable Truth to share.
Everywhere you go, coffee shops, grocery stores, parks, restaurants, second-hand stores, or anywhere that has 1 or more people in it, is an opportunity to strike up a conversation about Jesus. I admit, it’s easier said than done, but when we look at one really bold example in the Bible, you’ll realize that it’s not impossible. We see Jesus’ disciples starting the chain reaction. How would the gospel have gotten this far without their fire to share the gospel? It’s just another confirmation that you were chosen for a specific time, just like they were chosen for that time.
If you think about it, they were the starters in the 2000+ year marathon relay passing the baton down to the next generation, and then to the next up to the present day. Each of us, with our own unique talents and abilities, have a position in this ongoing marathon to share the gospel to as many people as we can.
The Church has been given an extraordinary role in spreading the good news of Jesus. Maybe you’re reading this and you’re in a workplace with non-believers. Maybe you’ve scheduled a certain day to go out and get your groceries from a particular store that isn’t around your city. Maybe you’re working with different people everyday. Maybe you’re working with the same person everyday. Whatever your situation is, you always have an opportunity to share the gospel to someone.
So, GO and share the gospel to whoever the Holy Spirit is leading you to. You’d be surprised what He can do through you in your uncomfortability or fears in speaking to others you may not know.
