Genesis 1:1: “In the beginning, God created the Heavens and the Earth.” Why is the first book, chapter, and verse of the Bible so extraordinary? You could say because it’s the beginning of what we now view as history. Yes, that’s one of the many great things about creation, but what’s even greater than this is what came out of His creation, and what He views as most important.
Out of all of the mountains, small and large, all of the animals, small and large, all of the trees, small and large, humans are the most important in the eyes of God. In daily life, we often judge an item by the price of it and how it affects our life, usually in a good way. For example, a person who drinks coffee everyday would choose a coffee maker over a blender to make healthy smoothies. Now, I might’ve struck some guilt into those who are reading this by pointing that out, but in reality that’s what we do. We prioritize things that we deem to have some sort of value to our life. Another example would be a cell phone. In today’s society, not having a cell phone with a 6 inch screen is classified as weird or absurd. However, when you look at the original reason for the invention of a cell phone, you’ll notice that it’s simply to communicate with others that are miles away.
The point I’d like to make with these examples is that God never creates something without value, and that includes every human being on this planet. We each provide some sort of value to this world. We each have different talents and abilities. We each have different stories. We each have a different set of characteristics, morals, values, and personal dreams that make us unique in who we are.
Psalms 139:13: “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.”
The thought I like to ponder at times is the thought of how we are made in His own image. I find this interesting because throughout history, things have been created by man. If God never created us in His own image, would we end up creating things? Would we have the ability to form an idea and create it? Would we have the drive to create something uniquely created by us? Sometimes, creations that were created years ago fade away because of a creation created today. This is false within God’s creation. All of His creations have lasted forever, and there hasn’t been a replacement of any of it. There’s still trees. There’s still plants. There’s still mountains. There’s still animals of many kinds. The most important creation out of them all, is humans.
With all of that said, let me leave you with a thought to ponder. God said at the end of time, He will destroy everything that He has created, except humanity. He loves us far more than all of His other creations, which is why you’re more important to Him than any other thing. He longs for a relationship with His creations, and I’m sure He longs for the day we get to be there in Heaven with Him.
