Who can give a proper explanation on the love of God? Who can measure His love? Literally, no one. I have to admit, writing on the topic of God’s love is probably one of the hardest topics to write on, not just because it’s indescribable, but it’s so significant and in depth, it’s impossible to grasp the full extent of it. One could say it’s simple, yet so lavish. Love is a topic of such central importance in the Bible, in fact, one might even go so far as to say that it is the greatest love story ever written. You will find cataloged within the pages the full gamut of human love: familial love, friendly love, neighborly love, romantic love, dysfunctional love.

Instead of diving into each of the different types of love, as much depth as there is to them, I want to draw your attention to the story of Abraham and Isaac. We read in Genesis 22 that Abraham was tested with a sacrifice God told him to proceed with. He was prepared to sacrifice his son Isaac in a burnt offering, and so Abraham obeyed by packing up, and heading towards Mount Moriah. Along the way, he knew fully the instruction God gave him, and I’m certain Abraham had quite a difficult time emotionally with proceeding with it because of the amount of love he had for his only son, Isaac. They get to the place of offering, an altar is built, and there lay his son Isaac ready to be sacrificed. Right before Abraham takes action, he is stopped with words from The Angel Of The Lord, “Do not lay a hand on the boy,” he said. “Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.” (Genesis 22:12). Then instead, a ram is provided for the sacrifice (Genesis 22:13).

I find this story so similar to what Jesus did for us. Even though we’ve made mistakes, continue to make mistakes, and are automatically attracted to sin everyday, Jesus died with the full weight of sin, so that we could receive eternal life through Him. We find God throughout the Bible sacrificing things of His own for us, even though we don’t deserve it. Abraham deserved to lose his son, yet God didn’t let it happen; instead, he was shown mercy by the sacrifice of the ram.

How is that not indescribable love? It shocks me everytime when I think about the amount of sacrifices God has made for us. Even through the filf, brokenness, corruption, and disobedience, God’s endless love stands on top through every situation we experience through life. There is simply nothing that can separate us from the love of God. There is nothing that can separate us from His great purpose for each and every one of us. There is nothing one can do to separate them from the love of God.

I want to encourage you readers, live your life free. Live your life in full knowledge of what Christ did for you, and use that to fuel your fire to do what is right in His eyes.
